Astana to Host the Kazakhstan Open 2025 International Taekwondo Tournament (WT)

From August 14 to 16, Astana will host the Kazakhstan Open 2025, an international G-1 ranking tournament in taekwondo (WT). The competition will take place at the Martial Arts Palace named after Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov. Pin-Up

The tournament, included in the official calendar of World Taekwondo, will feature three age categories – cadets, juniors, and seniors. More than 750 athletes Pin-Up have confirmed their participation in this prestigious event.

Athletes from 22 countries will be represented, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Canada, France, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pin-Up Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Luxembourg, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, as well as individual neutral athletes (AIN).

For the first time in many years, Kazakhstan is once again becoming a hub for world taekwondo. Previously, international G-1 level tournaments were held in the country in 2015 (Almaty) and 2017 (Atyrau). The Kazakhstan Open 2025 marks Kazakhstan's return to the map of international competitions. The tournament will be given Pin-Up special status thanks to the participation of Olympic champions and renowned stars of world taekwondo.

The event will be conducted under the new international rules using the updated KPNP K-2 electronic system. For the first time in Kazakhstan, new electronic gloves provided by KPNP will be used to ensure accuracy and objectivity in scoring. Additionally, for the first time in the country, Pin-Up the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team will perform as part of the international tournament.

High-level guests are expected to attend, including the President of World Taekwondo, Dr. Chungwon Choue, the President of the Asian Taekwondo Pin-Up Union, and members of the World Taekwondo Council.

“Holding the Kazakhstan Open in Astana is our contribution to strengthening international sports dialogue and promoting taekwondo in Kazakhstan. The Pin-Up tournament will unite top athletes, inspire youth, and offer a platform to shine on the global stage. We are grateful to all our partners and international organizations for their trust,” noted Kudrat Shamiev, President of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation (WT).

The total prize Pin-Up fund of the tournament amounts to 15,808,000 KZT.

The Kazakhstan Open 2025 will not only be an important step in promoting taekwondo in the country but also a Pin-Up key element in positioning Kazakhstan as a reliable international sports partner. The tournament will showcase Kazakhstan’s readiness to host large-scale events, including the 2026 Grand Prix Final, which has already been confirmed, as well as the 2027 World Championships, for which Kazakhstan plans to submit an official bid next year.
